Grand Marshall for the ceremony was Matthew Coté, DC, (NYCC ’80), senior clinician at NYCC’s Depew Health Center. Jennette Ball, DC, director of NYCC’s Master of Science in Clinical Anatomy program delivered the faculty address, and president of the Student Government Association, Komal Khattak, (third trimester student) also had the honor of addressing the graduating class. During the ceremony, a special presentation of the Convocation of the honor society, American College of Chiropractors (ACC) was conducted by ACC president and former NYCC Trustee, Serge Nerli, DC, (NYCC ’83). Those inducted into the ACC as Fellows are David Odiorne, DC, vice president of Institutional Advancement and special assistant to the president of NYCC; Scott Kilmer, DC; Kenneth Gonoud, DC; and Jack Barnathan, DC (NYCC ’84).
The commencement address was delivered by Dr. Barnathan who likened the graduates’ individual stories to the symphonies of Ludwig von Beethoven, each coming from within and being composed of their individual experiences, hopes, and dreams. And each still to be told and shared in their own words – in their own way. “Be bold,” he urged the graduates. “Get excited about the ways you can share. Think about your story, your passion, your inspiration. Keep us fresh, ask questions, share with us, tell us about your victories, and keep us on our toes.”
A graduate of Adelphi University, Dr. Barnathan is an award winning sports doctor and master trainer who has ‘worked out’ at the White House with the President of the United States. He created a national Symposium on Natural Fitness for athletes, fitness professionals, and physicians with former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and served as keynote speaker for the annual event – part of the largest fitness expo in the world. Barnathan also served as a board member for Mr. Schwarzenegger’s Inner City Games. He currently serves as president of New York Strength, Inc. which provides peak performance consultations and educational programs to elite champions in professional and Olympic sports, the performing arts, and the fitness training community, and is an active member of the New York City Amateur Sports Alliance.
Among his numerous awards and honors, The Certificate of Merit was awarded to him by the President of the United States. A respected authority on strength development and its dramatic impact on health and exceptional human performance, Barnathan is also an acclaimed speaker whose books, blog, podcasts, and workshops are in high demand throughout the world.
