How did you become interested in the topic you are presenting?
I become involved with the Clinical Compass and Clinical Practice Guidelines about 8 years ago. I realized how important CPG’s were to improve patient care, educate other healthcare providers, get paid for the services that we perform, and chance policy to improve access to chiropractic.
Who should attend your presentation and why?
Any chiropractor. If they want to improve treatment compliance, grow their referral base, and fight insurance denials, they will be able to implement knowledge learned the next day.
What about your presentation topic (or you) may surprise people?
I like talking about the changes going on in healthcare and in the world in general. The audience will definitely hear things (evidence) that they’ve never heard before!
Are there any new developments in your specialty/topic area that make your presentation at the NYSCA 2018 Spring Convention especially relevant or timely?
Yes, I’ll be talking about the second study evaluating the impact of chiropractic on opioid usage. We expect to have over 1 million subjects.
What’s your best advice to a recent chiropractic college graduate or someone who has been in the field for several years and is looking for new challenges or ways to expand their practice?
Get your head out of your practice. Change in the world, and in healthcare, is happening rapidly. If you don’t open your eyes and your mind, you’re going to have your glutes handed to you!
