NYSCA's 2018 Spring Convention (#NYSCA18) is packed with great educational content and world-class presenters. Join us March 9 - March 11 at Mohegan Sun, to hear from some of the profession’s most compelling thought leaders. Here we pose several questions to one of our featured speakers: Dr. William Austin.

Dr. Austin's Presentation: "Adjusting Gems for the Lower & Upper Extremities " on Sunday 3/11/18 at 8am. (For complete conference information and schedules, click here.)

How did you become interested in the topic you are presenting?
Ever since I was an athletic trainer at the University of Massachusetts back in the 1960’s I’ve been interested in extremity adjusting. All of us, athletes and non-athletes are dependent on our arms and legs to perform our daily activities.

Who should attend your presentation and why?
As Doctors of Chiropractic, we tend to deal with backs and necks day in and day out. And we’re good at it. We don’t spend as much time with the extremities so we tend to lose a bit of our skill over time. It’s always good to get a refresher.

What about your presentation topic (or you) may surprise people?
Extremity adjusting is quite simple to do and often times yields tremendous results.

Are there any new developments in your specialty/topic area that make your presentation at the NYSCA 2018 Spring Convention especially relevant or timely?
The studies on proprioceptive balance are very encouraging. Lower extremity adjusting is of great value especially as we get older. We can have a profound effect on balance and mobility.

What’s your best advice to a recent chiropractic college graduate or someone who has been in the field for several years and is looking for new challenges or ways to expand their practice?
Always consider the patient as a whole – all body parts as integrated and inter-related. Relax and have fun.
