ACA Offers ICD-10 Resources and Online Toolkit

Arlington, Va.—In anticipation of the switch to ICD-10 coding in the United States next year, the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) has created an online toolkit with resources to help all chiropractic physicians understand and prepare for the transition.

After Oct. 1, 2014, the ICD-9 codes currently used to describe diagnoses and treatment plans can no longer be used by HIPAA covered entities. Approximately 25 countries already use ICD-10, including Australia, Canada, France and Germany. The conversion to ICD-10 will enable U.S. health care providers to report diagnoses in greater specificity, resulting in more accurate reporting.

To reduce potential confusion within the chiropractic profession, ACA has created a new webpage that features reminders of important dates, an ICD-10 implementation timeline, helpful links, articles about the switch and other educational resources. Check lists, printable worksheets and a training webinar are available to ACA members for free.

“ACA’s goal is to ensure that the chiropractic profession is prepared for ICD-10 so that patients’ claims will be accepted,” said ACA President Keith Overland, DC. “The bottom line for every health care provider is that without advance preparation, claims will be rejected. Planning ahead will help ease the transition for everyone.”

ACA will continue to provide the chiropractic profession with up-to-date information and resources in its publications and online at http://www.acatoday.org/ICD-10. Additional questions may be directed to the Insurance Relations Department at [email protected].

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA), celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013, is the largest professional association in the United States representing doctors of chiropractic. ACA promotes the highest standards of patient care and professional ethics, and supports research that contributes to the health and well-being of millions of chiropractic patients.
