CMS Releases New ABN – Mandatory for Use Sept. 1, 2008

Last week, CMS released a new Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) form for use by Medicare providers. Of the key changes, the form includes a new title, “Advanced Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage” and this most recent version may also be used for noncovered services, in place of a Notice of Exclusion from Medicare Benefits (NEMB). Medicare providers may begin using the new form at any time during this six month transition period, but CMS will only accept this updated version after September 1.
