Medicare Fee Changes Delayed

A 21% across-the-board cut was finalized in the 2010 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) Final Rule.  However, on December 19, 2009, a bill was passed to delay the 21% fee decrease until March 2010.  This provides the Senate additoinal time to consider the bill passed by the House of Representatives in November that revises the formula for determining Medicare Reimbursement rates and provides a small fee increase for 2010.

Although the fee cuts have been delayed until March, it remains important to contact your Senators to urge them to take action on the fee schedule for the remainder of 2010.  Please take action now by using our Legislative Action Center to contact your Senators to urge them to stop the 21% cuts proposed for 2010. A template email is included at the Action Center.  To access the template, click on “Federal Issues” then select “Take Action” under “Fix Proposed 21% Medicare Physician Fee Cut” so you can create an e-mail message quickly and easily to send to your Senators to tell them to block the implementation of these drastic fee cuts.

Accessing Your Fee Schedule

If you would like to access your fee schedule, it is advisable to contact your Medicare carrier/contractor directly.  Because the fee schedule formula includes many different factors, including a geographic consideration, the most accurate information on fee schedule prices in your area will come from your individual Medicare carrier/contractor.  If you are uncertain as to whether or not your carrier’s website is up to date, you may wish to call them directly.
