By now most, if not all, healthcare providers will have received notice from the New York State Workers' Compensation Board advising providers of their responsibility to register with the WCB and update their office address and contact information. Authorized providers are asked to register with the Board and update their office address(es) and contact information by December 29, 2017. This registration process will be an ongoing initiative every two to three years.

The Workers’ Compensation Board (Board) has initiated a registration process to update and maintain a current list of medical providers who are authorized to treat injured workers. The goal of this process is to enable an injured worker to easily and accurately identify Board-authorized medical providers.
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) this week launched a new brand designed to make the association stronger and more relevant to its members and to better position it to seek and respond to opportunities in the modern health care system. More than just a new logo, the brand boldly defines what it means to be an ACA chiropractor.
“We're making a historic transformation on the inside by transitioning our governance, holding ourselves to higher professional standards, improving our relationships with other health care providers and committing to evidence-based care,” said ACA President David Herd, DC. “We've also improved our mission, vision, and values to inspire and empower a new legion of members to join our ranks.”
In addition, ACA is making a revolutionary transformation on the outside with a new look that is fresh, relevant and inspiring—and reflective of the association’s desire for collaboration with the wider health care world.
The new brand was the product of an extensive process of review, reflection and self-examination for ACA as an organization that started in 2015 with a new strategic plan. ACA then hired a respected consultant to reach out to members, non-members, other health care providers and a variety of stakeholders to ask what ACA means to them. The project took nearly six months and was a deep dive into the profession. After more than 30 hours of interviews, hundreds of survey responses and volumes of research, recommendations were presented to ACA’s Board of Governors last year, then ACA’s House of Delegates in March 2017.

NYSCA District 17 doctors Sara Griffin, DC and Christopher Acquisto, DC were among a number of chiropractors who volunteered their time and services to the 11-Day Power Play Hockey Game, the longest game EVER. Buffalo’s HarborCenter played host to a continuous 11-day hockey game to raise money for Roswell Park Cancer Institute from June 22-July 3.

In April 2017, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law the 2017-2018 Executive Budget, which contained several significant pieces of workers’ compensation reform designed to protect workers while also achieving savings for businesses. Included in the reforms was Workers’ Compensation Law (WCL) § 15(3)(x), which requires new Permanency Impairment Guidelines (“Guidelines”) to be adopted by January 1, 2018. The new Guidelines cover determinations of permanency under WCL § 15(3)(a) through (v), which are also known as scheduled loss of use.

Seneca Falls: New York Chiropractic College held commencement exercises in the Standard Process Health and Fitness Center on the Seneca Falls campus on Saturday, July 29, conferring degrees on 146 candidates: 31 from the Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) program; 18 from the Master of Science in Acupuncture (MSA) and Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine (MSAOM) programs; 67 from the Master of Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition (MSACN), two of whom are dual graduates from the DC program; one from the Master of Science in Diagnostic Imaging (MSDI) residency; and 29 from the Master of Science in Human Anatomy and Physiology Instruction (MSHAPI) program. Graduating students attended from California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, New York City, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Ontario.
